Until recently there had been no cases of Covid-19 in the village where Helping Hand Cambodia works, in the south of Phnom Penh. However, now there are close to 50 detected cases and many more are awaiting the results of their tests.
There are 400 families or about 1,500 people living in Chbar Ampov in the most basic of “homes” and it is because of the way that these families live, in very close proximity, that there is a big concern that Covid-19 will spread. People are getting scared and there are restrictions on people’s movement to help stop the spread of the pandemic.
With the money raised we will be able to buy rice and other foods to help those who need it most; those who have lost jobs or income because of the pandemic, or family members who rely on them.
Cambodia did a very good job at keeping Covid-19 under control for many months. Unfortunately, things have become much worse. Our donations will reach the most vulnerable as we also have the help, support, and advice of the Village Chief and the authorities.
The people and families that we work with need help and support more than ever and will continue to do so for the remainder of 2021 – so your ongoing help will be extremely valuable in this time of unprecedented crisis.
