Almost half the population of Cambodia is made up of children. Many live in appalling conditions, without sanitation, without clean water, without safe food.
Education is key in securing a future for these children. But when you’re a child of a family struggling for basic needs such as food and shelter, any hope of an education is like dust in the wind. These are the children and families we help.
Education is a child’s best chance of escaping to a better future.
Below are some of the achievements we have been able to reach
with the help of our sponsors!
Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world. About one third of the people live in poverty. Helping Hand operates in the capital Phnom Penh, in one of the poorest communities of the city. We started off with simply sponsoring individual children to enable them to go to school, and have along the way expanded our activities to support the community on a larger scale.
Our activities have expanded from sponsoring individual children's educations to an afterschool facility, in which extra tutoring is provided as well as access to computers and internet; as well as rice, food, and other crucial assistance.
Being a fairly small organization, we are able to ensure that the vast majority (more than 99% of our funding) is spent directly in Cambodia.
With the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, our efforts are as valuable and needed as ever before, as many have lost their incomes completely as a result, and even the previous limited incomes have become non-existent for many.
Therefore, your help and support is needed more than ever.
We undertake several types of activities in the community in order to help where help is needed. This includes cloth donations, COVID-19 safeguards such as masks and hand sanitizers, to name a few.
